Undergraduates
If you are an undergraduate student on a physics-related course you are entitled to apply for student membership. All undergraduate students are entitled to a free electronic online membership for the duration of your degree. This includes all the normal benefits of IOP membership, except that you will only have access to the online versions of the magazines Physics World and Interactions; you won't receive any printed copies.
If you would like to receive a printed copy of Physics World to the cost of £15 per annum, please select the option on the online form by ticking the box.

Postgraduates
If you are undertaking postgraduate study in a physics-related area you are entitled to apply for Associate Membership (AMInstP) at a cost of £19 per year (2011 rate). There is an annual discount of £5 available if you pay by direct debit. This membership includes all the benefits of IOP membership including printed copies of Physics World sent to you.
To apply for Associate membership (postgraduate Masters or PhD students only) please use the online form. You will need to supply us with the details of your postgraduate course, as well as the pass grade of your undergraduate degree. We may ask you to supply us with a copy of your degree certificate in some cases.
Please note that your undergraduate student membership will be valid until the autumn after you graduate.
You are eligible for the reduced student membership rate for the entire duration of your postgraduate studies, including any period of Continuing Research Status (CRS), e.g. when you are writing your thesis at the end of a PhD.
You may need to inform us if you are in the latter category, to avoid paying more than you should. Please check your annual payments to make sure you are on the correct membership grade.
Re-grading from Undergraduate to Postgraduate
Please note that your undergraduate student membership will be valid until the autumn after you graduate.
All undergraduates who are graduating in summer 2011 will receive an automated email requesting that they re-grade through MyIOP (June 2011). If you do not choose to re-grade to either Associate Member or IOPimember by Autumn 2011 your membership will lapse.
If you are or were previously an undergraduate student member who is wanting to re-grade to either Associate Member or to IOPimember, please do not fill out this online form, but log into MyIOP where you will need to follow the steps for re-grading to either membership class.
