Condensed Matter and Materials Physics Division

The aims of the division are:

  • To facilitate the study and application of condensed matter and materials physics in the UK. In particular, to organise the annual CMMP Divisional conference.
  • To persuade public bodies, such as the EPSRC, DTI and EU, industry and charities of the importance of research in condensed matter and materials physics and its contribution to national well-being. This aim will in part be carried out in conjunction with the Institute as a whole.
  • To encourage and facilitate contacts between academic condensed matter and materials physicists and their industrial counterparts.
  • To foster and encourage public understanding of condensed matter and materials physics in the UK, by fellow physicists, other scientists and the general public.
  • In particular, to assist the media in the presentation of condensed matter and materials physics to the public. To bring educational issues of particular importance to the condensed matter and materials physics community to the attention of the council of the Institute.

Membership of the Condensed Matter and Materials Physics Division is through the groups affiliated to the Division.
